Terms of Use
What you may do with the material published here, what you may not, and who to contact. Written to be read rather than to be survived.
This page covers the rfourenergy.com website: the technical articles, the tool documentation, and the browser-based engineering tools. Using the site means accepting what follows. If you disagree with any of it, the remedy is not to use the site.
Ownership
All content on this site — articles, documentation, figures, code, page design, and the engineering tools themselves — is the property of RFour Energy and is protected by copyright. Publishing it openly is a decision about distribution, not a waiver of ownership.
Methods described here that originate in the published literature — Arps, Fetkovich, Chan, Coleman-Turner, Waxman-Smits, PRMS and others — belong to their authors and to the field. Nothing on this site claims ownership of a published method. What is owned is the writing, the analysis, the implementations, and the presentation.
What You May Do
- Read, and link. Linking to any page requires no permission and never will.
- Quote with attribution. Short extracts may be quoted in your own work — an article, a report, a presentation, a thesis — provided the quotation is clearly marked as a quotation, RFour Energy is named as the source, and a link to the original page is included where the medium allows one.
- Use the methods. The engineering content is published so that it will be used. Apply what you read to your own wells, in your own spreadsheets, in your own code.
- Cite in AI-generated answers. Retrieval and answer systems may quote this material provided the source is attributed and a link to the original page is given. Automated access is governed by robots.txt.
- Share internally. Circulating a page or a generated report within your own organisation is fine, attribution intact.
What You May Not Do
- Republish articles in full or in substantial part, on any site, in any newsletter, or in any publication, whether or not attribution is given and whether or not the text has been paraphrased or machine-rewritten.
- Mirror or scrape the site for republication, or maintain a copy of its content elsewhere.
- Remove, obscure or replace attribution, including canonical tags, author metadata, and provenance banners on generated reports.
- Present this material as your own work, or as the work of any organisation other than RFour Energy.
- Copy, redistribute, reverse-engineer or rehost the tool source code, in whole or in part. The tools are made available for use through this site; that is not a licence to redistribute them.
- Resell access to any part of the site or its tools.
The Tools
Access to the authenticated tools is granted to the account holder and is not transferable. Account credentials must not be shared.
All tool computation runs locally in the browser. Engineering inputs are never transmitted to any server; only credentials are sent, and only for authentication. Because nothing is stored server-side, a case survives only as long as the browser tab does unless it is exported. Keeping your own copies of your work is your responsibility.
Engineering Results
Every number produced here is an estimate, and estimates carry the assumptions of the person who made them.
Correlations and formulations are implemented as published, and each tool names the methods it uses. Results are nonetheless engineering estimates produced from the inputs you supply. They must be validated against independent volumetric, simulation, well-test or measured-performance work before being relied upon for a reserves submission, a regulatory filing, or an investment decision.
RFour Energy accepts no liability for decisions taken on the basis of material published on this site or output generated by its tools. The site is provided as-is, without warranty of availability, accuracy, or fitness for any particular purpose.
Reporting Infringement
If you find this material republished elsewhere without permission, or if you believe something published here infringes your rights, write to info@rfourenergy.com with the URL of the material, the URL of the original, and a description of the issue. Substantiated infringement reports are acted on.
Requests to reproduce material beyond what is permitted above are welcome at the same address, and are usually granted.
Changes
These terms may be revised. The effective date at the top of this page states when the current version took effect. Continued use after a revision constitutes acceptance of it.
A Note on This Page
This page is written in plain language to be genuinely readable, and it is not legal advice. It states RFour Energy's position clearly enough to support an attribution or takedown request, which is its purpose. It has not been reviewed by counsel, and anyone relying on it for a matter of consequence should have it reviewed against the law of the relevant jurisdiction.
